Reese Atwood homers for 1st pro hit, blasts 2 off of NiJaree Canady in win

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Reese Atwood announced her presence in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League in a big way Sunday.

Playing for the Carolina Blaze, Atwood crushed two home runs off former Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady to help lift her team to a 9-1 win over the Texas Volts at Smith Family Stadium on the Duke University campus in Durham, North Carolina.

Atwood’s first homer, a towering 2-run blast way over the center field wall in the fourth inning, was the former Longhorns slugger’s first hit as a professional. She followed it with a line drive solo homer over the left field wall in the sixth to put the Blaze one run away from a mercy-rule victory. Devin Netz finished the job with an RBI single later in the frame to put the Volts away early.
