Dangerous flash flooding hits Central Texas — Again

Flash flooding hit Central Texas hard overnight and into this morning, triggering water rescues on one of the state’s busiest interstates and sending emergency teams across the region as a slow-moving weather system promised days more of dangerous rain.

Rescues on I-35 near Waco

Flash flooding on Interstate 35 near Waco led to water rescues and left vehicles stranded, with the Texas Game Wardens saying their teams and local partners were responding to numerous calls involving people trapped by floodwater. Videos from the scene showed submerged vehicles and first responders wading through waist-high water to reach people.

Imminent threat alerts reached phones across the Austin area early this morning, warning residents the situation was dangerous and life-threatening and urging people not to travel unless fleeing a flood zone or under an evacuation order…
