[1] Farms that relied on Rio Grande for irrigation seek alternative water-saving methods – Farmers across New Mexico are facing challenges because of low river levels. Some are finding new innovative ways to irrigate their fields. Last year, Mago’s Farms decided to switch to a drip system to ensure their chile crops receive enough water. They say the new system has allowed them to cut down around 40% – 60% of their water usage. Mago’s Farms is now working with UNM to find ways to continue to improve their water use.

[2] APS teacher to receive liver transplant from another teacher at Alamosa – APS teacher Kathleen Gallegos was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver in December and told she was in liver failure. She was told she was at the bottom of the list to receive a new liver, and that it could be years. In April, her friend and fellow teacher at Alamosa Lorin Ybarra came forward to get tested, and a few other teachers volunteered to donate if Lorin wasn’t a match. The surgery is planned for December in Denver, once Kathleen finishes up some final tests and appointments.

[3] Some storms but hotter, drier and calmer weather – After the morning, another round of showers and storms are forecasted for Monday afternoon/evening. Those showers and storms will develop at the start of the afternoon and will become isolated to scattered in coverage. After Monday’s forecast drier air settles into the state bringing spotty rain chances to the southern mountains.
