Pima County Sheriff’s Department Issues 911 Outage Alert Amid Ongoing Investigation in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has alerted the community about a 911 service outage affecting parts of Arizona, including Tucson. The disruption, reported on Sunday, June 15, is part of a broader statewide emergency network issue impacting multiple counties, though officials have yet to determine the cause.
In response, residents are advised to reach the Sheriff’s Department’s non-emergency line at (520) 351-4900 for urgent assistance during the outage.
This emergency communications interruption comes amid the active investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie. Nancy, 84, vanished from her secluded desert home in Tucson on February 1, in what authorities believe was an abduction. Evidence at the scene indicated a violent struggle, including blood and a door left propped open.
Sheriff Chris Nanos and the FBI have been working closely on the case, which has garnered national attention. Surveillance footage from the home’s doorbell camera captured a masked individual tampering with the security device while holstering a firearm. Despite the high-profile nature of the investigation, leads have been scarce, causing concern among family and the community.
Recently, three individuals were arrested near Nancy’s residence, prompting the sheriff to vow stricter enforcement against those interfering with the search efforts or disturbing neighborhood peace. Sheriff Nanos has faced criticism over the department’s handling of the case, with some calling for his resignation amid safety concerns.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in locating their mother or identifying those responsible. A $1 million reward has been offered for tips leading to an arrest. Savannah returned to the TODAY Show on April 6 after a two-month leave following her mother’s disappearance.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with information related to Nancy Guthrie’s case to come forward as the search and investigation remain active.
