Singer Bonnie Tyler Remains Hospitalized Following Emergency Surgery

Bonnie Tyler, the iconic voice behind hits like “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” continues her recovery after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in May. The 75-year-old singer was placed in a medically induced coma to aid her treatment, but recent updates from her family indicate she has since been taken out of the coma.

In a statement released Monday on Tyler’s official website, her family shared that while she is no longer unconscious, she remains very unwell and is still receiving intensive care at a hospital in Portugal. They noted that although her condition is gradually improving, the recovery process is slow. Doctors remain optimistic about her eventual full recovery but emphasize that it will take time.

Tyler’s representatives confirmed the coma status back in May, expressing confidence in her recovery at that time. The family’s latest message also addressed the impact on her touring schedule, announcing the cancellation or postponement of all remaining summer shows through August.

They remain hopeful that performances planned for the autumn will proceed as scheduled. Shows slated for 2026 are currently unaffected.

The statement concluded with gratitude toward fans worldwide for their support and well wishes. Tyler is reportedly aware of the messages and deeply appreciates the encouragement. Her family has requested privacy during this difficult period and promised to provide further updates when significant developments occur.

Bonnie Tyler rose to international fame in the 1980s, with chart-topping singles such as “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1984. Other notable hits include “Holding Out For a Hero” and “It’s a Heartache.” In 2021, she released her 18th studio album, “The Best Is Yet to Come.”

Representatives for Tyler have been contacted for additional comments.
