GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Between Leonard Street and Ann Street NW near downtown Grand Rapids, construction has started on the latest extension to the Grand Rapids Greenway, a decadeslong project to connect areas of Kent County and Ottawa County together via multiuse paved trails.
“Come out and start exploring (the Grand River),” Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand said. “We have actually got a river that we can experience, be proud of and that is a natural resource.”

This additional segment, called the Grand River Edges’ Trail, will be three-quarters of a mile long and eventually include street crossings, lighting, benches, native plants and more.
The Grand River Edges’ Trail is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
“This is going to provide a lot of recreation,” City Manager Mark Washington said. “I cannot wait … to see many of our community members come out, of all ages and all parts of our city, to join in and experience that connectivity from downtown to Riverside Park.”…
