88-year-old man loses $40,000 in fraud scheme

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — An 88-year-old man lost $40,000 in a fraud scheme at the end of May, police said.

According to Sgt. Aaron Benson of Sioux Falls Police, the victim reported he received a message on his computer indicating a security issue. Later, the victim was told that his bank account had been hacked.

He was given instructions to withdraw $20,000 on two separate occasions. The victim did take the money and was given instructions on where to take it.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing…
