For the MBTA, moving more than 19,000 people to and from Foxborough for the World Cup on Saturday was in many ways a big success. But the long lines to board trains, and the wait for a ride home after midnight felt chaotic to some.
In the sweltering heat outside South Station on Saturday afternoon, passengers endured seemingly infinite zigzagging queues with patience, and a party atmosphere prevailed. The trip back to Boston, however, was grueling — between confusion over how to get to the train and enduring the company of fans who’d been drinking for hours.
The State Police, Foxborough police and MBTA Transit Police, FIFA and the Boston host city committee did not respond to requests for comment on the rowdy late-night behavior and sense of chaos around the Boston-bound train queue. State Sen. Paul Feeney of Foxborough was not available for comment…
