LA Councilwoman Seeks Court Intervention Over Delays Moving Mentally Ill Homeless Residents Into County Care

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A Los Angeles City Council member is calling for greater accountability from county officials, arguing that severely mentally ill homeless residents are remaining in city-funded shelters far longer than intended because they are not being transferred into appropriate county-operated treatment and housing programs.

In a letter dated June 12 and addressed to U.S. District Judge David O. Carter, Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez requested that the court require Los Angeles County to publicly disclose how many mentally ill individuals remain in city-funded interim housing while awaiting placement into long-term county care.
