JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) – Jasper County is moving forward with a plan to better protect and preserve a major Lowcountry property.
Monday night, Jasper County Council approved two million dollars in bonds to purchase a conservation easement for the Chelsea State Forest property. Conservation easements are voluntary, legally binding agreements between a landowner and a land trust.
In the past, WTOC reported some of the Chelsea Plantation property was sold for housing and retail under the Chelsea South Plan. The City of Ridgeland also annexed some of the property for housing.
