WORCESTER – After a period that saw six students commit suicide between summer of 2021 and winter of 2022, leaders at Worcester Polytechnic Institute knew they had to do more to address student mental health.
However, four years later, the school has seen two student suicides during the 2025-26 academic year, showing some students are still falling through the cracks.
In July 2021, Jiyang “Jeffrey” Wu, a senior, died by suicide. In August, Lorenzo DeSimone, a computer science major, also died by suicide. In September, Liam Godin, a junior who went by the name “Jyn” on campus, died by suicide. In November, first-year student Ronan Banavige died by suicide…
