ICE arrests Ecuadorian man after Rensselaer police find judicial warrant at traffic stop

RENSSELAER — An Ecuadorian man accused of being in the country illegally was arrested by federal immigration officers on June 10 after city police pulled him over for an alleged traffic violation.

Rensselaer Police Chief Warren Famiglietti said a city officer stopped a vehicle allegedly speeding on Washington Avenue around 2:30 p.m. After running the identities of the vehicle’s two occupants through state and federal databases, the officer learned there were outstanding warrants for both the driver, John Jairo Riascos Guaman, and a female passenger, whom police said was the man’s partner.

The warrant for Riascos Guaman was immigration-related, so Rensselaer police contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the federal agency. The warrant sought Riascos Guaman because he is facing removal from the U.S. and the document was signed by an immigration judge on April 16, 2024, according to ICE…
