Old Fort man charged with firing a weapon into home where woman was sleeping

OLD FORT, N.C. (WLOS) — An Old Fort man is facing several charges after he reportedly fired a weapon into a residence and then entered it by kicking the door down, according to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the man, identified as 58-year-old Richard Darrin Cody, was reported to have fled on foot after gaining entry into the residence. The incident happened on June 11.

According to a June 16 news release, Detective Kyle Gibson with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Cody with the following:

  • Felony first-degree kidnapping
  • Felony discharge weapon into occupied property
  • Felony first-degree burglary
  • Misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun
