Riverside Seeks $8 Million to Tackle Magnolia Avenue Homeless Encampments with Outreach and Housing

Riverside is pursuing more than $8 Million in state funding to address one of its most persistent homelessness trouble spots—a stretch of Magnolia Avenue that runs between Central Avenue and La Sierra Avenue.

The City Council is set to consider authorizing a $8,423,448.45 application to the California Department of Housing and Community Development, according to the council memorandum. If awarded, the three-year grant would fund mobile medical care, motel-based shelter, and rapid rehousing along the corridor.

For nearby residents, the program—if it receives funding—would mean more structured outreach and motel-based placements aimed at reducing the visible encampments, sanitation concerns, and safety risks the city has documented in the area. It would not produce overnight change.

Why this corridor was targeted
