Oglala Sioux Tribe opposing Mt. Rushmore fireworks

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Oglala Sioux Tribe is opposing the July 4th fireworks show slated for Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills.

Lawsuit related to Smithfield plan continues in court

A resolution from the tribe is urging the National Park Service and National Forest Service to “cancel any fireworks celebration at Mount Rushmore because of the current drought conditions and high risk of wildfires that could endanger the lives and property of tourists and local citizens (including tribal members), the Sacred Black Hills and all sacred sites.”

President Frank Star Comes Out posted the resolution on his social media.
