Manhunt Underway After Two Hospital Workers Shot in Delaware

Additional Coverage:

Two employees were reportedly shot inside Wilmington Hospital in Delaware on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a swift police response.

Authorities said officers arrived at the hospital around 3:30 p.m. after receiving emergency calls and found two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. Wilmington police spokesperson David Karas confirmed that the victims’ conditions have not yet been disclosed.

Preliminary information suggests the incident began when one hospital worker shot two colleagues. Officials indicated the suspect, whose identity is known, may have been a temporary employee.

The hospital scene remains secured as multiple law enforcement agencies continue to search the building. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.

In audio obtained from emergency dispatch, one victim was reported to have been shot in the neck, and the other in the upper body. A text message to hospital staff confirmed that the shooting occurred in the building’s basement.

Christiana Care, which operates Wilmington Hospital, announced that the emergency department was on divert status. The organization also requested that friends and family members of patients refrain from coming to the campus to allow police to conduct their work. They emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

This unsettling event follows closely on the heels of a major law enforcement response in Cleveland, where seven buildings-including the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office-were evacuated after an explosive device was found. Authorities later confirmed there was no threat to the public in that case.
