CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Rapid population growth in Berkeley and Dorchester counties is fueling a wave of health care expansion, as providers race to improve access in one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing regions.
Dorchester County is growing at an annual rate of 2.9%, while neighboring Berkeley County is expanding even faster at 3.2%, according to local estimates. The surge has prompted major health systems to invest in new facilities and services to keep pace with demand.
