Two FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS This Week as Tropical System Approaches

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Heads up, Western Carolinas—Thursday and Friday mark our First Alert Weather Days as the remnants of a tropical system move into the region. This brings locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and a threat of severe weather that could impact your plans.

What’s happening

A tropical disturbance tracking from the Gulf rounds the eastern side of a departing weather system and approaches the region Thursday evening through Friday afternoon. The biggest impacts arrive Thursday afternoon overnight into early Friday morning, with some rain possible again Friday afternoon conditions dry out over the weekend.

The exact path of this system remains uncertain. Models show disagreement on how far north the heaviest rain swath extends—with some guidance showing an axis closer to the I-85 corridor while others push impacts slightly south. For now, the heaviest of the rain impacts Northeast Georgia and the Upstate but a shift south of our area is not out of the question.

Today (Wednesday): Sunshine returns and temperatures rebound back to highs in the mid to upper 80s. Humidity stay low, though, so it’s another fabulous June day. Winds pick up out of the southwest through the afternoon.

Tonight into Thursday morning: Clouds increase. Winds strengthen out of the southwest with gusts near 25-30 mph expected Thursday. Wind impacts alone will knock around outdoor items and create challenging travel.

Thursday: This is a First Alert Weather Day. Showers and thunderstorms move in Thursday afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall expected in the Upstate.

Damaging wind gusts remain the primary severe threat, though locally heavy rain could occur within stronger storms. Highs top out in the mid to upper 80s…
