Historic Pendleton landmark begins new chapter after major renovation

PENDLETON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A building that has stood at the heart of downtown Pendleton for more than a century is beginning a new chapter.

Community members and local leaders gathered Monday to celebrate the reopening of the former Evans Drug Store at 102 Exchange St. following a yearslong restoration project aimed at preserving one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks.

The brick building, constructed around 1905, served generations of Pendleton residents as Evans Drug Store and was once home to four generations of Evans family pharmacists. Two physicians also operated medical practices upstairs. After the drugstore closed in 1996, the building’s upper floors sat vacant for years…
