Demolition begins at old newspaper site where new hospital planned

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Demolition has begun on the old Commercial Appeal building on Union Avenue, which is coming down to make way for a new Regional One hospital.

Crews were tearing down walls Tuesday at the newspaper’s 95,000-square-foot former home at 495 Union, near downtown.

The Commercial Appeal downsized and moved to a new space downtown in 2019.

Plans are in the works to build a new Regional One hospital on the property, replacing the current hospital on Jefferson Avenue…
