As New World screwworm cases continue to be reported in Texas, animal organizations across the state are increasing precautions to protect the animals in their care.

The parasitic fly larvae can infest livestock, wildlife, pets and people. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there are currently 12 confirmed New World screwworm cases in Texas and New Mexico, with 11 of those cases reported in Texas.
