Convicted bank robber accused of driving into, dragging Buncombe County sheriff’s deputy

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A convicted bank robber now stands accused of charges including attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, and carrying a concealed weapon following a 6 a.m. “shooting incident” on Interstate 40 last week, authorities said.

Alexander McKenzie, 50, of Hendersonville, was arrested around 8 p.m. Tuesday on Tunnel Road; he had been wanted for questioning by Buncombe County Sheriff’s deputies in connection with an apparent freeway shooting on June 10 along I-40 near Patton Cove Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

In that instance, McKenzie was charged on suspicion of discharging a firearm to incite fear and attempted first-degree murder for allegedly attempting to kill a man who was in a black Chevrolet Silverado on I-40 that morning…
