Road rage: Man who stabbed chef 19 times could get light sentence, victim’s mother fears

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who admitted to stabbing a Memphis chef 19 times during a road rage incident four years ago will be sentenced Monday, and loved ones of the victim want to make sure he gets the maximum sentence.

“Because this is a danger. This is a danger to society,” said friend Alex Boggs. “We have over 50 letters from friends and family of Jody that we’re going to present on Monday. We’ve been gathering them; it’s emotional to see them, it’s emotional to read them.”

Jonathan Brush, 61, was indicted for first-degree murder in the death of Jody Moyt, 42. He faced a potential life sentence, but last month a jury convicted him of a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. The charge carries a sentence of three to six years in prison. Brush has already received credit for four years served.
