The Metro Nashville Police Department is warning residents to be cautious when searching for rental housing after receiving more than 200 reports of fake rental listings so far this year.
According to the department’s Fraud Unit, scammers are using secondary websites such as Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist to advertise properties that are not legitimately available for rent. In many cases, victims have lost thousands of dollars after receiving leases and access codes that appeared legitimate but were fraudulent.
