Whataburger rival P. Terry’s shutters longtime Texas location amid I-35 changes

An ongoing expansion project in the heart of Central Texas is now forcing the closure of a decade-old P. Terry’s Burger Stand location.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is in the midst of its I-35 Capital Express Central Project, a nearly decade-long initiative to widen and expand roughly eight miles of the interstate system between U.S. Highway 290 East and State Highway 71 and Ben White Boulevard. That project is now responsible for the upcoming closure of the P. Terry’s location at 5701 N. I-35, Austin, TX 78723, as founder Patrick Terry confirmed on Wednesday, June 17.

“It is a really sad day for the P. Terry’s family,” Terry said in an Instagram post, adding the business had been operating at the site for roughly a decade. “We think this building is iconic. We love our location. We’ve been able to serve the people in Central Texas at this location for so long, but we must go. And there’s not anything we can do about it.”…
