Dog dragged down Des Moines street while hanging out of window has died

DES MOINES, Iowa — A dog that was dragged down a Des Moines street while hanging out of a car window has died.

Late Thursday night, the Des Moines Police Department responded to reports of a dog hanging out of a vehicle window by her leash and being dragged for several blocks until it broke.

The dog was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital for treatment of injuries before being taken in by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. On Wednesday, the ARL shared that the dog, named Lola, had been humanely euthanized on Tuesday due to the significant injuries she sustained.

“From the moment she arrived, it was clear she had suffered unimaginable trauma,” an ARL Facebook post reads. “She had severe injuries across much of her body and needed round-the-clock care to keep her comfortable and manage her pain.”
