Marvin Elementary staff member hospitalized with Legionnaires’ disease

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The Ritenour school district announced Tuesday that a staff member at Marvin Elementary School had contracted Legionnaires’ disease and was hospitalized from late April to early May.

The district said in an email to staff and families that they were sharing this after learning information about the situation the night prior.

The staff member recovered from the illness and went on to return to work before the school year ended. The district went on to emphasize that Legionnaires’ disease is caused by Legionella bacteria when water mist or vapor is inhaled, but cannot be transmitted from person to person…
