Man found shot, slashed in burning South Loop apartment dies

Chicago police detectives have launched a death investigation after a man was found shot, slashed, and suffering from smoke inhalation inside a burning South Loop apartment on Wednesday evening.

Chicago firefighters responded to a fire in a second-floor apartment in the 1300 block of South Wabash Avenue at about 5 p.m. Upon entering the unit, they discovered a 33-year-old man and summoned police after finding a firearm and realizing the victim had been shot, according to a preliminary police report.

Further investigation revealed the man also suffered a laceration to his neck and smoke inhalation, according to a CPD media statement. He was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died…
