City sales tax shows surge in May

Sioux Falls’ positive sales tax revenue trend isn’t slowing down.

Sales tax revenue surged 9.6 percent in May, bringing the city to a 7.2 percent increase year to date versus 1 percent for the same time last year.

“We’ve been concerned because we didn’t hit our numbers last year,” director of finance Shawn Pritchett said. “We needed to hit 4.6 percent growth this year to make budget, and right now, we are on track to exceed that, assuming that we continue to have strong months ahead.”…
