Local jailer says increased popularity of K2 drug merits stiffer punishment

ALBANY — Law enforcement authorities say they’re upping the penalty for possession after the Albany County jail was flooded with contraband packages of the synthetic drug K2.

Previously, prisoners and others caught with the drugs at the jail faced a misdemeanor charge, but Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple and District Attorney Lee Kindlon say they’ll file felony charges for possessing the hallucinogenic substance.
