Law enforcement, banks warn of sophisticated scammers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Local, state and federal law enforcement officers and representatives from West Michigan financial institutions met in Grand Rapids Thursday for the latest in a series of meetings aimed at preventing and prosecuting fraud.

Kathy Jones and her husband know exactly what it’s like to fall victim to a scam. They hoped to buy a tractor online and thought they did their due diligence before sending the money via wire transfer.
