PA House passes bill to crack down on illegal ATV riders, Harrisburg leaders agree

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The roar of illegal ATVs and dirt bikes has been a familiar complaint on Harrisburg streets for years, and now state lawmakers are moving to give local governments more tools to crack down.

The Pennsylvania House unanimously passed legislation that would allow municipalities to implement stricter rules and penalties for illegal street riding. The bill still must pass in the state Senate. Under current law, if an ATV is driven in a reckless manner, a fine can be issued for as much as $300. The proposed legislation would allow local governments to set their own punishments.
