Neighbors fight for insurance to cover house explosion damage

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — People living near the site of a deadly house explosion in Comstock Park last month are fighting to get insurance to cover damage.

Deputies say Doug Preston intentionally blew up the home on May 26, killing himself and his wife Lucy Preston, who died days later at the hospital.

People with homes near the property have found a variety of damage including foundation cracks and air conditioning units that no longer work.

Steve Huizinga still remembers clearly the morning of the explosion and the damage he saw.

“People are really being affected by it,” Huizinga said. “We heard the massive explosion, woke us up, and when we got out of bed we thought we were reliving the tornado from two years ago and all of the sudden we heard another smaller blast and we looked out the front and saw the huge fireball out there.”…
