FORT PIERCE — As communities across America prepare to celebrate Juneteenth, growing attention is being placed on Florida’s overlooked role in the long struggle for African American freedom.
On Monday, June 6, the public gathered at the Council on Aging of St. Lucie on Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce to hear cultural historian and advocate Derek Boyd Hankerson discuss Florida’s connection to African American history.
