MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We’re giving you the First Alert to early morning storms associated with the remnants of Arthur. Gusty winds, downpours, and a brief tornado risk remain our threats this morning.
Friday Storm Threat
Strong low-level winds tied to the remnant circulation of Arthur could bring a few damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado threat as this line of storms rolls through the area to start the day.
We’re placed under a LEVEL 1 risk for a few strong storms across the area this morning.
The leftover circulation will be accompanied by a round of showers and storms Friday morning.
The most likely timeframe for the storms to move through the Grand Strand and Pee Dee will be from roughly 5:00 AM through 11:00 AM.
Some of the storms will be capable of dropping locally heavy rain and gusty winds along with a small, but non-zero risk of a brief spin-up tornado.
- Downpours and stronger wind gusts — Gusty winds will also develop through the morning hours on Friday. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be possible, especially in any heavier showers or storms. An isolated gust over 45 mph will be possible as well.
- Rainfall totals – The showers and storms early Friday will be moving very quickly limiting the time of locally heavy rain. As a result, drought relieving rain is unlikely. The highest totals will likely be across the Pee Dee where local amounts over an inch are possible. Closer to the Grand Strand amounts will generally average one half to one inch.
- Rough Surf – Gusty winds will create rough surf Friday. Small Craft Advisory in effect with a high risk of rip currents for the Brunswick County Beaches.
THIS AFTERNOON
Once the main round of storms moves out, we expect sunshine to come out for the afternoon hours. This will allow temperatures to climb back into the upper 80s to near 90 inland today.
Expect a breezy afternoon as winds gust anywhere from 20-30 mph.
Models this morning continue to provide ONE FINAL PUSH for a couple showers later tonight, mainly after sunset. Even then, coverage should be limited. There will be NO SEVERE WEATHER with this round of showers, if they even make it to our area.
