Colorado is getting a new kind of golf course, and it’s headed to the Fort Collins area. It could be a way for family members to get to know one another’s hobbies and have a good time doing so.
What is the New ‘Golf’ Course Coming to Wellington, Colorado?
The Coloradoan had the story about how Wellington would be the first town/city in Colorado to have what is called a MultiGolf course. An activity that apparently incorporates park golf, disc golf, and foot golf (soccer.) It looks like it will be a part of the Griffin Greens disc golf course at Knolls Linear Park.
As someone who enjoys playing disc golf and enjoys watching links (regular) golf, I was very intrigued to find out what this MultiGolf is all about. Honestly, some days, I have a hard enough time with just disc golf; adding in soccer and park golf sounds exasperating.
What is Foot Golf, Which is a Part of MultiGolf Coming to Colorado?
Researching, I found that foot golf has been around since about 2009; It’s a lot like regular golf, only it’s played with soccer balls. Players attempt to get the ball into the “hole” (a circle on the ground) in the least amount of shots.
What is ‘Park Golf’ Which is a Part of MultiGolf Coming to Colorado?
Park golf is not regular golf, but a form of golf developed in Japan in 1983, played with a hard plastic ball (like a whiffle ball) and uses one club. Park golf also has a bit of croquet thrown in, with obstacles that need to be maneuvered around; Wellington’s course will have obstacles.
There Are a Few MultiGolf Parks in the United States
Avery Jenkins, who’s installing this course in Wellington, also installed a course in Iowa in 2023. The rules of that particular course state that you play the 18 holes twice: once with disc golf discs, then, again, with a soccer ball (or vice versa,) There’s no park golf on that course.
The Wellington MultiGolf course will indeed include park golf. The targets/holes for Wellington’s 9-hole course will be actual holes in the ground large enough for a soccer ball (clearly big enough for a park golf ball,) with disc golf target basket stands within the holes…
