BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was arraigned on several felony charges Thursday morning after a child was shot in the shoulder at a Hager Street residence on June 9, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said.
Buffalo police responded to a shooting call on the first block of Hager Street around 10:20 p.m. on June 9. It is alleged that a bullet grazed the foot of a 34-year-old man and then traveled through the floor into a first-floor apartment, striking a 6-year-old child who was asleep. The child was taken to Golisano Children’s Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Markus Wright, 19, was arraigned on the following charges:
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Second-degree assault
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- First-degree reckless endangerment
Wright is being held in custody without bail and is scheduled to return to court on July 21 at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. Temporary orders of protection are in effect, officials said.
The highest charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
