Alcoa resurfacing, road work to impact East Tennessee drivers this weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — From repaving work in Alcoa to other projects across the region, 6 News anchor Alayna Verduyn has what drivers in East Tennessee need to know before hitting the road.

The City of Alcoa and the Tennessee Department of Transportation will be resurfacing West Bessemer and Middlesettlements Road between the intersections of Hunters Crossing and N. Calderwood Street at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21, for 72 hours. In the first stage, the highway on- and off-ramps will close, requiring traffic to use Alcoa Highway or Bessemer/Middlesettlements through the Diverging Diamond Interchange. In the second stage, the ramps will reopen, but traffic won’t pass through the Diverging Diamond. Drivers will have to get on Alcoa Highway or exit the roadways without passing through the Diverging Diamond Interchange.

TDOT has also released a list of projects on state routes between Friday, June 19, and Wednesday, June 24, across East Tennessee. Drivers are encouraged to use caution when workers are present and be aware of delays.
