North Florida braces for heavy rain as growers warn drought still driving up prices

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After months of drought, North Florida is now bracing for a soggy weekend — and local growers and food access advocates are watching closely to see whether the rain brings relief or creates new problems.

At the Frenchtown Farmers’ Market in Tallahassee, the drought’s impact has stretched beyond the fields and into the community. The nonprofit, which focuses on improving access to fresh food, also runs a 12-week farmer training program that teaches residents how to grow their own produce.
