Flash flooding hits Jefferson County after heavy rain Saturday

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Heavy rain hammered central Alabama Saturday afternoon, leaving trees down and cars stranded across Jefferson County.

Multiple roads were completely flooded Saturday afternoon. Some areas were still dealing with high water Saturday evening after some cities saw more than 6 inches of rain in just over an hour.

Flash flooding swept through Jefferson County from Mountain Brook to Graysville Saturday. The flooding comes after heavy rain and storms earlier in the week left the ground already soaked.

“It’s like a sponge. It gets wetter and wetter and wetter and then it takes less rain in a shorter period of time to cause flooding,” said JP Dice, First Alert meteorologist…
