Runners join 48th annual Kalamazoo Klassic races to support local nonprofit

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Hundreds of runners and walkers raced across Kalamazoo for a good cause during the 48th annual Kalamazoo Klassic on Saturday.

The Klassic featured a variety of events, including the 5k run, 10k run, 5k walk (timed and untimed), and the Klassic Kombo 10k run/5k run, or 5k walk.

Saturday’s sunny skies and mild temperatures provided the perfect weather backdrop for runners to compete against others and themselves.

“It’s your own competition with yourself and it’s just a fun way to be outside,” said Ashley Middleton, a 10k runner.

The races were for more than just good exercise, however. The event benefitted local nonprofit MRC Industries, Inc., who help those living with disability with employment, workforce development, and active community involvement, according to the event’s website.
