Ten months after a bullet nearly took his life, Florida State linebacker Ethan Pritchard took his first unassisted steps. The moment was captured on video during a family gathering for his 19th birthday. It became the latest milestone in a recovery that doctors once weren’t sure he would survive at all.
Pritchard was the first commitment of Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class. He joined as a three-star prospect out of Sanford, Florida, with real promise heading into his freshman season. That promise was nearly cut short on August 31. As he drove family members home from a cookout in Havana, just outside Tallahassee, and was struck in the head during a drive-by shooting at the Havana Heights Apartments.
