‘Surreal’: Family mourns mom killed in wrong way crash

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – After a deadly night on West Michigan roadways left seven people dead in just five hours, family members are now sharing who they lost and the hole it leaves in the community.

One of those victims was 39-year-old Jessica Schmock of Jenison, a mother of three who was killed in a wrong-way crash on I-196 in Grand Rapids early Friday morning.

For her 20-year-old son, Hunter Graham, the hardest part is thinking about everything his mom will miss: his 21st birthday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and watching his younger brothers grow up. Her kids are between the ages of 3 and 20.

“She was always a good mom. It’s just going to be so hard,” said Graham. “She was a really good person with a really big heart. She always cared for people.”…
