Newly released CCTV footage reveals the chilling moments leading up to the brutal murder of Kyle Bevan, a convicted child killer, inside HMP Wakefield, one of the UK’s highest-security prisons known as the “Monster Mansion.” The video captures Bevan nervously glancing over his shoulder as three fellow inmates-Mark “The Iceman” Fellows, Lee Newell, and David Taylor-follow him into his prison cell before launching a deadly attack.
Bevan, 33, was serving a life sentence for the murder of his 2-year-old stepdaughter. The footage shows the three men entering his cell and stabbing him 25 times.
After the attack, they placed his body in bed to make it appear as though he was simply sleeping. Bevan’s death went unnoticed until the morning roll call, by which time he had been dead for several hours.
Mark Fellows, notorious for previously assassinating high-profile gangland figures Paul Massey and John Kinsella, was seen wearing blue gloves during the assault. Nicknamed “The Iceman” and the “Wakefield Dexter,” Fellows, along with Newell and Taylor-both serving life sentences for murder-were subsequently handed whole life orders at Leeds Crown Court.
The three inmates had carefully planned the killing, reportedly targeting Bevan because of his conviction for the murder of young Lola James in Wales. Disturbingly, footage shows the men joking together just before the violent attack. During searches of their cells, authorities found weapons smeared with Bevan’s blood, including a sharpened piece of metal and other makeshift weapons.
Lee Newell was serving time for strangling his neighbor in 1988, while David Taylor had admitted to the murder of Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, a woman who went missing in 2022 and whose body has never been found. Taylor had even attempted to kill a police officer who came to interview him about Alisha’s disappearance.
Prosecutors indicated that the three men had deliberately targeted specific inmates, particularly those convicted of offenses against children, and suggested the attack may have been motivated by a desire to be transferred out of HMP Wakefield.
In sentencing, Justice McGowan emphasized the premeditation and brutality of the attack, describing how Bevan was restrained by at least two of the men while being stabbed repeatedly. “He was left to bleed to death; his last moments must have been terrifying,” she remarked.
Chief Inspector James Entwistle of West Yorkshire Police condemned the violence, calling it a “premeditated, brutal attack” that displayed a blatant disregard for life and prison safety rules. He underscored the importance of maintaining secure environments within prisons, stating that the convictions serve to protect others and uphold the rule of law.
All three men were found guilty of murder, ensuring they will remain behind bars for life, held accountable for their violent actions inside the walls of one of the UK’s toughest prisons.
