DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) – Behind the locked doors of the Morgan County Jail, a local nonprofit is bringing something unexpected to the people inside: a focus on purpose, not punishment.
Ashley Collins walks into the Morgan County Jail with one intention: to bring light to the lost. She started 14 years ago when she was looking for a way to serve and came across the jail ministry at the Neighborhood Christian Center in Decatur.
“The director said, ‘ Why don’t you come on Tuesday night and find out what jail ministry is about? And before I could say, no, I don’t want to do that, the Holy Spirit prompted me to say, ” Yes, I’ll be there,” Collins said. “And after the first day class, I walked out thinking, this is where God is showing me I need to share my faith and share the gospel.”…
