City approves $31 million Eastern Wharf parking garage; rules out other locations

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah officials are moving forward with plans that could bring a new $31 million parking garage to the city’s rapidly growing Eastern Wharf development, while stating that similar projects are unlikely in other parts of the city, including the Starland District.

Savannah City Council recently held the first reading of a proposal that would allow the Downtown Savannah Authority to issue bonds for the construction of a new parking garage within the Eastern Wharf development on the eastern end of River Street. The proposal must receive additional approvals before any financing can move forward.
