Spokane renters could get new cooling rights under council plan

Spokane, Wash. — Spokane City Council was set to take up a proposal that would require cooling options in rental housing as the city marked five years since the June 2021 heat dome.

Paul Dillon with the Spokane City Council said the anniversary also reflected the toll of that event in Spokane County, where 19 people died and more than 300 were hospitalized with heat-related illness.
