Jon Rivera, Jeremy Zellner face off in NY Senate District 61 race

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Voters will take to the polls on Tuesday as the race for New York’s 61st State Senate seat continues, with incumbent Jeremy Zellner taking on challenger Assemblymember Jon Rivera in the Democratic primary.

WIVB News 4 sat down with both candidates, who shared why they’re a good fit for the job. And while they campaigned on a variety of issues, the opponents share a similar stance on one trending topic: data centers.

“We don’t know enough about them to just let them start populating all over the state of New York,” Zellner said. He’s been communicating with Gov. Kathy Hochul and her office about signing a moratorium and said questions surrounding AI and big tech are “critical issues that we’ve got to take up immediately.”…
