SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Kenneth Brown will spend one-and-a-third to four years in prison for the criminally negligent homicide of his 1-year-old daughter, Kyra Brown. That is the sentence imposed on Brown on Monday, June 22, in accordance with a plea deal between prosecutors and Brown’s defense.
Brown stood looking down, swaying side-to-side as the judge read his sentence, which he said was a tragedy, but still appropriate in this circumstance.
“Despite the sentence, this is actually a much longer sentence, as you try to get over this,” the judge said in brief comments to Brown. When asked if he had anything to say, Brown declined to comment before sentencing. The prosecution noted Brown appeared “very remorseful” and that he “loves his children.” Brown’s attorney said he accepts responsibility for his actions, and the entire event has been “excruciating and heartbreaking” for his client…
