Northwestern State students from Shreveport area help welcome incoming freshmen

Northwestern State University students Thomas Perryman and Nickolas Robinson are helping incoming students make the transition to college as Freshman Connectors, serving as mentors and guides during the university’s Freshman Connection orientation program.

Perryman, a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, and Robinson, a graduate of Southwood High School, are among the student leaders who work with small groups of incoming students, introducing them to campus resources, student involvement opportunities and academic advising while helping them navigate the transition from high school to college.

“I know some people just need that push because some people are introverted like me, and I know it’s kind of hard to push them out of that shell,” Robinson said. “I want to be that light and help bring them out. For my people who are coming down from my hometown, be ready for this big ball of energy coming at you.”…
